If White didn’t have the blot on our 24 point, I think it might be right to switch from our 3 to our 1, 3/1*(2), taking away half his roll. But with his blot on his ace, I’m less worried about him pointing on our head on his 3 and 4 points. We’ll have direct return shots at his ace point, and maybe some indirects too. Moreover, his pick-and-passes bury two checkers on his ace (and might also leave some indirect returns).
If we don’t hit on our ace, I like 9/7(2) for two of the 2s, making the 4 prime and the bar point, and blocking White’s escaping 6s from the ace. And then with the last two 2s, if we don’t hit on the ace, we'll have to give up the mid with 13/11(2). Do we want to keep the mid, given that we have still have 2 checkers back? I hear the (written) voice of Chuck in my head telling me how overrated the mid is. Is it really easier to escape our back checkers if we have the mid rather than the 11? In this situation, is it worth giving up the 3 point for the ace point to keep the mid, especially since we hit by doing so?
As usual, playing doubles ain’t so easy. All things considered (or at least the ones I’ve thought of), I’m going to vote for 9/7(2) 13/11(2). Looking forward to reading others’ analyses.
