Gin positions

To what extent do/should tournament backgammon rules hinge on the exact definition of ‘gin’? I listed a couple of questions that come to mind below:
i) Say in position 1 after Blue plays his 5/2 and punches the clock, White gets up from the table without taking the formality of bearing off his last 2 checkers…during this break in the action, White’s clock runs out of time. Who wins?
ii) Suppose I am playing in a legal moves tournament. I am playing a Giant in the semi-finals…there is one spectator who will meet the winner of my match in the finals…obviously this spectator would rather play me that the Giant. In one of the games, I have one checker closed out, but already have at least one checker borne off. I resign for a single game, and my opponent accepts. The spectator feels this resignation was an illegal move, based on the fact that tournament resignations are only allowed in non-contact positions, and leaves to find a director. Me and my opponent set up the next game, where the cube gets escalated quickly, and I become a huge favorite. The director then arrives and ask the players to confirm the situation that the spectator describes…everyone agrees on the facts. Does the director have the right to wind the match back to the point where the illegal resignation occurred, thereby nullifying my advantage in the current game?
