At this score White must be very careful to not cube recklessly. Blue should aggressively play for the gammon. Thus, the very aggressive 8/2 seems more appropriate than the safe 24/23 16/15. Blue can afford to be less cautious than at more usual scores. Also, even at other scores I am not sure that 8/2 is not correct. Blue's greatest concern is extricating that backman. I really do not want to give White a full roll to cover his five spot. Actually if Blue is hit, this could lead to advance anchor possibilities to improve extrication.

This is an interesting problem of which I am unsure. Yet, I would play 8/2. Perhaps, I would play 8/2 at any score.
