European Backgammon Federation Tournament Rules

Please--No increase in time limits for normal tournament play. I'll allow the Monte Carlo tournament to be an exception. There is plenty of time for pip counts when needed, a vigorous dice shake, etc. More time simply allows slow players to play too slowly and still be within the rules.
Slightly off the topic of this thread--There is talk of the USBGF doing a rules rewrite sometime soon. There is also talk of eventually having standardized rules worldwide. This is a laudable goal. Instead of a rules rewrite in the U.S., why not simply except the European rules in the U.S.? Those are a good set of rules. If several backgammon federation representatives got together to negotiate a code of worldwide rules, would that set of rules be any better than the current European rules? If the goal is for us to have international rules, this would be a giant step in that direction.
