I prefer a double tap, two taps in quick succession. This can be on the board, the bar, the surround, or even the table. I guess some might find more than a single tap a little irksome, but it is almost impossible to mistake it for something else.

In an unclocked match, rather than requiring that both players share one pair of dice when, very possibly, they want to have a pair each, I think there is a good case for allowing either player to require one pair. Call it Shared Dice Preference, as opposed to Shared Dice Mandatory!
