In Response To: Grandmaster Award to Mike Senkiewicz (Casper Van der Tak)

In the 80s I believe Mike, Jason Lester and Roger Low were the best players. Others were at least a half-class level behind. In the early 90s other players caught up, particularly Wilcox Snellings and Howard Ring.

Jerry Grandel was the first major player to benefit from studying from Bots, By the late 90s he was playing under 3.5 I believe. Ballard dominated the Giants List and was undoubtedly a great player, but I from study of the PR results at the time (now lost unfortunately) it seemed that Grandel and Francois Tardieu, and some of the great Danes may have been marginally superior. The clear American bias in the voting at the time would have favoured American players to some extent of course. I mean no disrespect by the above statements, but merely wish to give an objective opinion.
