Something is strange in Denmark

When I was in France in the late 90s or early 2000s bowling alleys were slim to none. Even the scant one or two(?) I ran across wouldn't rank up there as very impressive. In the US bowling is popular enough now with many high schools having bowling teams, both men's and women's, and awarding scholarships to colleges from this sport.

For many in the US at least, bowling is (was) a great activity (sport) that one could do one or two nights a week with your friends or people you work with. Hang out a couple/few hours, compete, drink, shove the kids off to play video games. It was a win/win for everyone.

I come from a big bowling family. My dad bowled about 5 nights a week. My mom a couple and my brothers and I growing up always bowled on the weekends at least. There was no varsity (high school) bowling yet. I split my time between bowling alleys and roller rinks. It really was as good as it sounds. In fact, when my mom was in labor with me (3rd child, youngest, quit after they hit perfection) my dad was bowling at the time and upon receiving the call asked if he could finish the series before heading to the hospital! (a series is 3 games in bowling, the usual amount of games bowled on any typical league night)

We had countless bowling trophies, patches, jackets, rings even in my house. Most being my dad's of course. Dad found out he had carpal tunnel in his right arm (no surprise) he switched to left handed and still kicked ass! This was one of the things early in life that led me to a certain degree of ambidextrousness. He also switched from right to left handed in golf. I would often try to do things with both hands because...why not? Earlier this year I found myself at a bowling alley (I bowl once a year now) and even though nobody had ever seen me bowl a $500 bounty was offered if anyone beat me...and I told them I was bowling left handed. These people weren't bowlers of course and in 2 games none of the other 4 people came close. The one time a year I do bowl now is in my dad's tourney which raises money for someone to go to college. It's 9 pin no tap so more fun than anything.

With the progress technology has made in bowling (the ball) it has taken some of the interest out of bowling for me but it would be something I'd like to return to if one day I found myself with free gaming time.
