May I suggest.... OK, so you don't want that.

If your disc has become unreadable, then you could always search for an iso image file to download, then use magicdisc (if you can find a version that works on XP) to mount it as a disc.

Honestly, you should strongly consider pursuing the thing you dont want suggested. Also, given that you are still on XP, you probably will need to google some instructions on what an ISO file is, and how to use them too.
