Blue needs to shore up his rear checkers. Ideally, he would like to make an advanced anchor.

After he enters on the 21pt, his blot there becomes a prime target for White. White has an advanced anchor, and every incentive to hit loose on that point. One way to blunt White's attack is to improve the inner board. Making the 4pt will be a huge plus for Blue if an exchange of hits occurs.

For the final 4, slotting the 2pt is fine.

M = bar/21, 8/4(2), 6/2
