In Response To: Match scoring protocol when time runs out? +1 (Colin Owen)

Hi Colin,

CO >> I notice that 3 points are awarded for a win and 1 for a loss. What is the point of this?

CO >> As drawn matches are not possible in our game

It should be mentioned that in addition to the above, technically a 'draw' is possible. 0 points are awarded to both players if the match is unplayed before the 70 day season window expires.

This points system is designed to encourage players to complete all of their season fixtures i.e. you are rewarded with more points if you make the effort to play, but lose the match, rather than not playing it at all.

3 points for a win and 1 point for a loss (0 points for an unplayed match) also mirrors the long established and well respected FIBSleague scoring system.

N.B. We also have a 'claim 3-point forfeit' process if an early 'leader' tries to avoid playing any their matches in order to stay ahead of the pack.

CO >> "All matches are to be played using shakers (and precision dice when available)."

IMO, the quoted sentence does not preclude the use of baffle boxes? Thanks for highlighting the possible ambiguity though - I will post something making it clear that baffle boxes are allowed in the SBL. Not that (to my knowledge) anyone owns a baffle box here yet.

The league was put together fairly quickly and it's rule-set borrowed heavily from the framework of the London Players League (thanks to Richard Biddle / Ian Tarr). As such, all SBL rules are not yet cast in stone and subject to amendments based on fairness and pragmatism as and when appropriate.
