Yes, there are "many different ways different sports handle awarding points", but they are not all intrinsically sound.

You say of the "world famous English Premier League" points system - also the same, btw, everywhere else in the world after a FIFA edict - "Most think it's a decent system." What do you mean by 'decent'? WADR isn't that a rather inane term?

I am not "suggesting that they are doing it wrong". I am stating the obvious that it is mathematically incorrect to do anything other than share ALL of the points when teams/competitors tie/draw. Just like, in a motor race for example, if there was a dead heat (it can happen on some tracks) the points for the tied places would be shared amongst the tied competitors. No, I would not suggest awarding 1.5 points for a draw in football. I would suggest that they revert to awarding 2 points for a win, then they would get rid of the fractions when sharing (all) of the points when teams do draw, which they should clearly revert to doing. Otherwise, the saying that 'the table never lies' is frequently untrue, and the incorrect award for a draw has failed globally to increase the number of goals anyway; draws are indeed fewer, but average goals have remained the same. What would you generally find more interesting: a 1-0 score or a 3-3? Do you also not realise that the system is open to abuse? In a league, two fairly equal strength teams could collude by arranging for each to win their home fixtures, thereby sharing 6 points. If, instead, they played two honest games, then they might end up splitting only 5 points, or even sharing only 4.

On your next point, try to realise that "what feels right to [you]" may not be mathematically correct!

They 'introduce negative numbers' in football - in the form of penalty points - and don't seem to have a problem with it. In a bg league it is unlikely that a player's total points would stay negative, and might never actually be negative even after a deduction for a forfeit. And halves cannot occur.

"I've played in FLG for years and I do know that it [3-1-0] seems to work quite well"

WADR that is another rather inane statement.
