I used to live by a similar rule, but mine started at 3-away, 4-away. I eventually found too many exceptions to the rule, even at scores like 3-away 7-away, for my comfort level. Massive volatility and a close take/pass decision seemed to be common elements in the exceptions to the rule.

Here, my best guess is that white has a close take. There is a good amount of volatility if blue rolls a 2 or 4, but not enough for me to call this an exception to the rule OTB. No double/Take.
