New Rules Questions

I don't feel like it's a threat or 'consequences' as if the world is going to stop if a TD tells me I can't use headphones. It's just a fact, I would quit the tournament and not come back.
It's not that I need another form of entertainment, it's to drown out everything else so that I can concentrate. This is especially true depending on the player in question. For example, Gary Schachtschneider who is a great guy, super friendly, can't help himself but talk incessantly during a match. I wouldn't be able to focus at all playing him without headphones. This is true on a different level with most opponents. Often I'll play without headphones but if it's a serious match or my time gets short the last thing I need is to be able to hear anyone else. Maybe it will be my opponent talking on his turn to himself which makes it hard for me to go through my upcoming rolls or do a pip count, perhaps it will be a passer bye with an innocent "Hey Stick yada yada yada", or maybe others playing close to me will be too chatty or have an incident themselves. A billion things going on and it is very hard for me to tune out. It's not like it's a constant noise like chip shuffling in poker.
I can't exactly see how it's rude to shut out my opponent. This is supposed to be a serious competition, not the nightly Chicago chouette. You don't see a lot of banter and outside noises during chess matches.
