I agree that, if a player tried to stop their opponent from using headphones simply to upset them and put them off their game, then they are a jerk. Gamesmanship would be a more polite term of course.

Bill Riles is probably not far wrong in his belief that the chance of someone using headphones to communicate with an accomplice using a bot is beyond remote - in most tournament scenarios anyway. But having an inaudible (to the outside world) list of doubling windows playing over the headpiece seems far less remote.

I confess I find it strange that we play in a game where, in the competitive sphere, we are generally allowed to use headphones, can decline to use a simple contraption (known as a baffle box) that practically guarantees a fair and random roll and, at the very least, get to roll to decide whether the match will be played using our opaque dice. Considering all this bias in the Trust versus Transparency scale why don't we just throw our cups away? Or, at least, allow players to play without them - as they do play this game in many parts of the world. Instead, we can actually insist on lipped ones! It's a funny old world.
