If the oppt PoH on the 5-point after either play, you will have more ways to hit back on the 17-point or anchor on the 22-point. U is also better if the oppt hits loose on his 5-point since only 8 numbers fail to hit back or make the 22-point (vs. 15 if you had played P with your 42). Doing any of these things will really cut down on your g losses - a real important consideration at GS.
