World Championship 2017 - What is the correct number?

If there have been 49 previous world championships, then it is more accurate to say that the next one is the 50th. When MC advertises that there is going to be a world champion crowned, I believe it is far more accurate to say that there were 49 crowned previously and this is the 50th.
Let's say that in 2018 the folks who run Monte Carlo decide to hold the world championships in, say, Rome. It wouldn't be the 1st world championship. It would still be the 51st time a tournament was held to crown a backgammon world championship.
So from the standpoint of accuracy, 50 would be more correct.
From the standpoint of tradition, and showing the world that backgammon champions have been crowned for 50 years, not 42, it is also preferable.
I vote for 50.
