I have Mike Sall's book, A predato's Guide, and I paid $200 for it. The book is worth it. It is the best book on gin ever written. I have loaned the book to my brother and to a good friend who I consider to be the best gin rummy player I have ever known (that's saying a lot) and they both learned from the book and agree it is right on.

I am a very fine gin rummy player, better at gin that backgammon for sure. And I teach gin rummy on line and have for several years to people who play for big stakes. One player flew me to his home and we spent a weekend together.

I spent some time with Mike Sall in Monte Carlo this year and we talked about the book, and about gin at length.

You can buy the book from Carol Cole. If you want to borrow it from me, I will loan it to you so you can read it if you like. email me and we'll work out the details of my sending it to you.

Earlier this year I played in the World Series of Gin in Las Vegas with the encouragement of Howard Markowitz and I met some excellent players. One lives in Chicago and we play now, regularly.

Gin is very much like backgammon....easy to learn but very hard to play well, and like poker, in addition to knowing how to play well, you do have to know how to play and read your opponent. However, like backgammon, when you play very fine players, reading your opponent is not that much of an issue as all really fine players play pretty much the same.

I consider myself and Howard to both be very fine gin players and have not met anyone else in the US backgammon scene that is as good, except of course, for Mike Sall. As good as I think (and know) I am, I cannot beat my older brother very often, and he can't beat one guy at his club in Florida who is known to be one of the best in the world.
