What about buying a bye?

We auctioned the byes for the NOVA annual tournament for a few years.... It works okay with one or a few less players than a full bracket just like Phil's example of 14 players. It does not work well with otherwise. Most players have no clue how much the bye is worth or don't want to bother. 25% is way too low for a limited number of byes. Look at the number of great players that full entry fee for events like the Crystal Beaver over the years when us cheapskates would play the qualifier for 1/2 entry fee.
