Multithreaded gnubg definitely supports dual cores (I know since I'm doing it) and according to the developers it should scale to at least 8 cores if not more.

And you're right, RAM is relatively cheap these days so the extra GB is not that big of a deal.

Also, I'm not David Rockwell, just Dave. I was just throwing in my advice based on what I'm probably going to do next.
