Frank: There is IMHO a difference between the most chosen and the choice No.1. Work half a year with OS X and you now what I mean. A computer that simply works and no need to invest time just to keep that damned box working. At least this was exactly what happened to me some years ago.

Frank: Really? For the system discussed here (i.e. no notebook) Ubuntu or PCBSD are pretty user friendly. And if you buy a PC with an operating system you get now Vista. XP is stable and well supported but Vista? I got my Quad with it, but I just test sometimes on it. What a conceptional wart, UAE....

I've worked with OS7,8,9,10 All the way through, they are the single most painful OS' to work with. They simply do not network well with Windows. I agree, they are pretty, and easy, but really, if you want to do anything complex with them, then you are in trouble. I speak from experience.

As for Ubuntu, yes its also fairly user friendly, but its simply not mainstream enough to be of significant value. If you are a Linux / Unix guy, then great, but for your average user who just wants to analyze BG, read email, surf the web etc, Vista & XP are nice and easy to use. I have found the chief Vista complainers to be the ones that simply dont have a powerful enough machine to use it on, and the chief champions of Vista are the opposite (like me lol).

Its just a matter of taste really, but I do urge you to consider spending more time on Vista, it is easy to use, and I find it to be rock solid. Just make sure you switch the crap off (video backgrounds, user account controls etc). Software is being developed for it much more, and it tends to be very stable these days.
