It doesn't really work. Just knowing that the dice are weighted is a big advantage even if same dice are used for both players.

I'm intrigued by this question. For example, if you played with a pair of non-precision 'scooped-pip' dice, knowing that the 6-side was more likely than the 1-side to appear on any die roll (and assuming your opponent was ignorant of the issue), can you give an example of a checker play you would actually play differently based on that knowledge?

If not, and to go at it another way, how heavily weighted would the 6-side of a die have to be favored in order for you to make palpable changes in your checker play?

As Colin points out, I wasn't meaning to suggest there was zero possibility of some kind of cheating using a single pair -- only that it removes one whole set of cheating possibilities if both players use the same pair -- and yes, I think electronic dice offer an enormously larger scope for manipulation, since signals could conceivably be sent on a roll-by-roll basis, and numbers could actually be specified rather than being made somewhat more likely.
