Your point of midrange flies being turned into hits are balance by short flies that would have previously been singles now being outs instead. Forcing the outfield in would make extra base hits more likely except the extra bases for the batter do not matter.
You responded to my post but not to the actual content of it. I was arguing that your statement that a single would now score the run is not so true. So should it be taken that you concede that point?

Being behind by a run means there is benefit to scoring more than one run which does not exist in the original situation. Whether or not bunting increases the chance of scoring at least one run it definitely lowers the chance of scoring more than one. For that reason bunting will have less equity in the second situation.
