I must be missing something?! After clearing the 5 pt you have an even number of checkers and unless you roll two useless 2's you don't waste a turn. You may even win a G if you do waste.

If you play the daft 3/0 3/1 you leave a blot 1/6 of the time next roll and still often will waste a turn later.

Safe probably wins more gammons.
