Take Points

It is not always true that you have lower take points when you are behind and higher you are ahead, particularly when taking and winning gets you to 100 percent (winning the match) or gets you to Crawford (an advantage for 1 game).
Take points are derived by comparing the risk and reward of taking and winning vs. passing, and taking and losing vs. passing. There are some scores where it just doesn't cost you much to lose 2 points instead of 1 when you are ahead in the match, but winning 2 points instead of 1 gains you tremendous equity.
This is why the leader has a lower take point at 4away/5away, 3away/5away, and 2away/5away.
Take the last example, 2away/5away. How much equity does it cost you if you lose 2 points instead of one? About 7 percent. But what do you gain if you win 2 points. If you take and win you are 100 percent. If you pass, it is 2away 4away and you are 67 percent, so you are risking 7 percent to gain 33 percent.
Of course, all take points assume no gammons...you need to factor gammon risks into the equation.
Hope that answers your question.
However, over the board, if you are trailing and there are gammon risks, of course you should be more aggressive, as you thought. And if you are ahead, of course you should be more conservative giving the cube as your opponent has huge recube vig.
