Make the eight or the four?

The eight does a better job of blocking, but the four will be handy when bearing in.

I think the answer lies in timing. If we make the eight, then white will likely crunch before we start bearing in so the gap won't hurt us much. Yeah, white may make the four, but she needs double twos to do so and that's no more likely than double sixes so the eight does a better job of preventing jokers.

Normally the four is more valuable than the eight, but I'll opt for the eight.

And BTW, fast-pitch softball is much harder on the hitter than hardball, so if I whiff this one that's why.
