Paul,

I have a few more comments about your position.

1. I think your money-game cube-action positions are a little misleading, because they show a centered cube, and with a centered cube, XG thinks that Blue missed a double in your original position. As you know, rollouts of checker plays after a missed double can produce weird results. The most relevant money-game rollout would therefore seem to be the one where White owns the cube, and that's the one where the difference between 7/1* 6/2 and 9/5 7/1* is the smallest. If you do want to examine the cube action after a hit and a dance, then I think you should give Blue cube ownership; XG thinks that if Blue owns the cube in the original position, then it's NRD (just barely).

2. If in spite of what I just said, you still want to examine the case of a centered cube, then I think you should turn Jacoby off, since your primary interest here is match play. Jacoby doesn't usually matter much but here it might. For example, if you do an XG 4-ply evaluation of the initial position with (a centered cube and) Jacoby turned off, then 10/6 7/1* comes out significantly ahead of 20/16 7/1*, which is not what XG 4-ply says if Jacoby is turned on.

3. Your question about cube efficiency is a good one and I don't have a good answer at this time. I do believe, however, that the solution will involve studying XG Rollout Statistics. For example if those statistics show that (re)doubles are losing the market by a mile then that suggests poor cube efficiency. If you are serious about trying to understand cube efficiency then I strongly recommend that you upgrade to the beta version of XG and start looking at Rollout Statistics.
