Without doing any scientific surveys, most chouettes play that if the Captain beats the Box, the Captain is the new Box. Your Phoenix rule is used by some other clubs. As far as general consensus as to what the Box needs to do to keep the Box, I don't think that there is a majority. The different variables on what the Box must do to keep the Box: Some clubs play that the Box must beat the Captain. Some play that the Box must show a profit. Some play the Box must break even. Some play that the Box must "win the game", meaning the Box must beat the last opponent left that isn't out of the game due to cube action.

These variables may be mixed and matched.
