"If you're making all cubes equal, and the box is essentially playing "one" opponent, then wouldn't the captain take over the box if the crew makes a profit, even if the captain loses?"

In our scenario, the box is playing one game against many individual opponents. They are a team in the sense that they have the same goal of beating the box, but equity is not shared.
