Maybe it doesn't truly bear out over a long period but the small instances where I've played "Must beat the Captain" it appears that the take point against the captain becomes artificially lower and the doubling point for the Captain lags the players until it's pretty much a sure thing as it's more potential profit to simply get into the box than it is to take a chance on getting 2 points with even a moderate double.

It just feels to me like "Win the game with positive equity" leads to more realistic double/take points. Which, as an intermediate player trying to improve is just more attractive to me.

Maybe that's the root of my bias, come to think of it.
