Well, I suppose that the zero loss player could be a bit less motivated in the first match, knowing that he can lose this match and still win the title. The fox is faster than the rabbit, but the fox is running for his dinner whereas the rabbit is running for his life...

Another reason might be that, if the second match is needed, the one loss player has just beaten his opponent, so might have the measure of him; 'horses for courses' as they say.
