Not a bad idea and something we should consider in the future for specific items. We felt, this year, if we included all items, it would be too cumbersome and would discourage participation. In effect, we did a psuedo form of this by soliciting comments from the backgammon public and making changes based on those suggestions. The rules that had mixed support were made optional for tournament directors. In respect of tournament director's experience and opinions, we felt this may have been a better approach than telling them to use a rule they do not like just because 51% of the membership voted for it. Our goal is to unify the community, players and directors, behind a common rule-set and we feel our approach is an effective first step.
