Oh, and what's the deal with Montreal being on the American tour? I have no objections, just curious.

It's the American Backgammon Tour, not the United States Backgammon Tour. Canada is in the Americas. What I don't understand is why there's a tournament called the US Open, but one of the first things you see on the brochure is that it's an invitational. I guess they just thought the name sounded cool.
