I agree with your viewpoint. Back in the early 2000's I went to tournaments. If the dice didn't land flat on the felt you just re-rolled, no problem. There weren't clocks (but maybe there should have been). I've recently retired and continued studying the game and when I consider whether or not to go to a tournament these issues you discuss give me pause.

I've also thought that using a tablet method like you mentioned would address all the problems and add analysis, etc. We are at the point with technology that I can look at my "phone" and see exactly where I went a month ago. You'd think we could use the technology to overcome the rules issues.
