Thanks for everyone's concerns. United, on Monday morning, could not assure me of getting me to Houston before Saturday. So, I took a flight to Austin late yesterday afternoon, rented a car, and drove to Houston. Was an exciting, circuitous drive but I made it. Thanks to the directions of a couple of cops in Bastrop, Texas and to Tara who was on the phone with me playing navigator with some detailed road maps showing closures, etc.

All is fine with our house. The creek near our house crested at 113.5' compared to it's previous all time record of 110.3 set in April 2016. Our house is somewhere around the 120' level. So, a lot of room to spare -- considering this is, probabilistically speaking, a 800 to 1000 year event.

Matt, son, was asked to evacuate his apartment complex on the west side of Houston today so he is staying with us. I went and picked him up late this afternoon after he was evacuated by boat. He is on the second floor of his complex so his stuff should be safe, and he is parked high in the garage. But the first floor units have something like 7' of water.

We are blessed to be fortunately spared the damage so very many have experienced. Others cannot imagine the flooding. Keep them all in your thoughts.
