The USBGF is sponsoring streaming with money -- subsidizing the associated expenses. Directors determine how that money is used but it can be applied to labor, equipment, hard-wired connections, etc. As you can appreciate, depending on hotel wi-fi is problematic at best and typically results in streaming that is all but impossible to watch.
The USBGF is sponsoring with equipment. The USBGF has purchased some new state-of-the-art equipment; however, it is difficult to get the equipment to every tournament and to have operators available that can efficiently utilize it. To note the difference, please view some of the Monte Carlo streaming this year. The equipment is also invaluable in the production of the Primetime Backgammon magazine; so it is also difficult to efficiently implement its utilization in multiple venues for multiple uses.
The USBGF is also generous in teaching streaming techniques. I know Tara, and Michelle, give much direction to others in many streaming aspects. Beyond the basics of execution and implementation, there is an art associated with set-up and presentation. Contrast streaming videos from 'professionals' with those of 'amateurs'. There is a world of difference that make the streaming much more viewer friendly in quality and presentation.
You are correct in that there is no quantifiable evidence supporting the benefits and advantages of streaming. Nonetheless, I, for one, think the game is much better off with it than without it.
