Hee, even in the days when I could hit anything, I'd have had a hard time if a manager gave me the instruction "swing away at fastballs or hanging curves." No such signal was ever used 8-). The simple "swing away" is preferable, I think. Whether I swung was a matter of instinct, decision made in a split second. I imagine it's the same for Good Hitters [TM].
