I'm on this page with you, and don't dislike your play of 20/16 8/6, but OtB I would either keep running with 20/14 ("When ahead in the race...") or play 20/16 13/11 without thinking too hard about the score. I like that spare on the 8 point enough to want to keep it there, where it can help make either the 5 point or the bar safely, and 13/11 can help with that, too.

I also like 13/11 because making the 11 point looks like a good idea. It can make it more dangerous for him to run a man, and also stores builders for the bar or 5 point if the dice aren't nice enough to let us make one of them next turn.

I don't like 13/9, partly because it leaves more shots than 13/11 and slots a point we don't need or want, six away from the made 3 point and not even potentially blocking much of anything. But more than that, it passes up the opportunity to get one of our back men out and about, either to run or to help build our outer board.

We might also make a temporary outside anchor as a way or getting our last back man out of his home, but with the intent of getting rid of it fairly soon. Our overall game plan is to disengage into a race while keeping his back men trapped in too poor a position to provide him with good counterplay.
