gnubg and pipcounting

In tournament chess both players are required to record the moves. Some boards have the rows and columns labeled to make for easier recording for newbies.
In chess there is no reason to ban such boards. There is no pip count equivalent, nor dice that dictate how far pieces may move. It may speed up the play of those new to recording their (chess) moves, but the bulk of these players probably play too fast anyway and never run low on the clock anyway.
In bg on the other hand numbered points can make it easier to realize that your checker on my 8pt is ten away from my checker on my 18pt, and hence your 55 roll can hit me. I actually had a player miss that earlier today in a $20 online tourney today! It probably cost him the match (but I didn't follow the rolls afterward to find out), and definitely was a whopper with many patties to not hit me due to his oversight.
