To hit or not to hit

I dont have any of his books, and I only know the vaguaries around it. But, the premise is:
If you have less than a 10% race lead without hitting (when faced with a hit/no hit situation), then you should hit. I suspect that this only naturally applies to leaving single directs as a response, not double (or higher) directs.
Its an awesome law, I follow it to the letter, and it saves lots of tough decisions. Also, sticking to it at exactly 10% makes it real easy. Anything below and its hit, anything above, and dont. Surprising how often they come up.
I had a decision vs Jeb Horton at DMP in the later stages of the conso in Wisconsin last year, where an exact hit no hit came up, turns out I had to hit, was right (after GNU, Snowie etc) by a mile. I showed it around. Was very surprised at the number of high calibre players who insisted they wouldnt hit. Jeb hit me back, won the match, but I felt good about making the right play at the right time.
