GNU Backgammon 1.06.001 vs 1.04 ?

Terry, or, anyone familiar with GNU program.
I have Version GNU Backgammon 1.04.000-mingw 20141021.
1. What are the major differences between these 2 versions of GNU?
2.I have Windows XP.How do I update my version to new 1.06,( steps for dummies,please) and, do I have the computer capability to do so ?
