6-1 to play

This is a good problem because this type of problem is often misplayed (12/5) by decent players but would never be misplayed by a Giant. Well, at least a Giant I'd vote for. I wish I had a big collection of these but to know which ones would be misplayed I have to take them from live matches.

You already have enough attacking numbers should the opponent enter on the 2pt without hopping out. You'll have the direct 2s and 4s and then plenty of indirects to hit loose. It's true you have less numbers that close the board naturally but that is not your top concern. If we play 12/5 the swing on his numbers that come in and hop are enormous and that's a threat that's likely to persist for many turns as you'd only have 3 builders to make the 2pt.

Basically in this position we'll shuffle our outfield checkers around on different points to keep max coverage of the 7pt and 8pt until we're forced to either bring them in or the opponent enters and we attack. In some positions, depending on the strength of the opp's board, we might slot the 8pt in hopes of using that builder to close/attack on the 2pt or making the 8pt for a hot second to exert control over the 2pt.

17/11 is mandatory then it's about finding the best ace. None of the checkers in our inner board need to move as that would be a negative. That leaves us either 16/15 or 11/10. My default without much thought would be 16/15 as it keeps that bunch of checkers grouped together in a better fashion. #rollerderby
