7 pt epidemia, 'PRAT-equation'

This is a perfect example for the ‚human neural net’ method. Seeing the position at first sight, breaking the golden point ‘feels’ right. But why?
The game is in a ‘defined state’, beyond opening and middle game. Some bridges are burned, the crisis of contact and turnover is coming to a climax. The ‘7 points desease’, her fever, is manifest. Where is the medicine, to heal some of her symptoms?
What is activated, given the hidden layer (‘PRAT’), for both players? What concepts can be revealed?
The Black corpus.
Prime/Position value. 11 men are connected. 17 pips are hidden in this structure, before the 6 point has to go (by the way, 17 pips behind in the race as a liability, converting into an asset for the offence). At time, the advanced anchor is still under some blocking pressure, also for a later hitted man. Purity is not compromised, the prime value maintained. Here is structure and mobility still in itself.
Race value. Black is behind, 17 pips. In a pure race, it would be serious, but not impossible for a turnover. High doubles could convert the game for black. But overall there is little race value activated. The possibility is low, to win with the race. Maintaining the race chances, avoiding hits, likely doesn’t pay off enough. Regarding the concept ‘freedom/antifreedom’, black is even in a better position. He has four men to bring home, white has 6 men to free through the death valley of contact.
Blitz/Attack value. The inner board strength is even – 4 points made -, comparing the two combattants. Both sites have 11 men in the ‘blitz-zone’, in the first place. But a closer look shows: given the open 1/4 point, black has in reality 5 men still alive, given the fact, if the 6 point has to go, this men on the 6 point are material, to rebuild inner board points. There is still plenty of life in this structure on his own, maintaining mobility.
Contact/Turnaround value. At time, black is holding two defensive points, four defensive men in the backfield, to produce a fumble, an interception, a turnover, which can easily lead to a touchdown, given the strong structure at the line of scrimmage. How much safeties are needed, to hold, staying in the backfield? That is here the question. The five point is connected with four opposite checkers, the barpoint also. Outfield control is also a strong concept in Prime/position value, targeting on scrambling stragglers.
Let us look on the concept ‘Connectivity zone’. It is measured in pips, between a point and another point. If the defensive bar-point breaks, the golden point is 12 points away from his own bar-point. Breaking the golden point, the defensive bar point is only 10 points away, connecting to the main corpus of the army, which has to be accomplished, finally. Which task is easier?
Outfield control. Breaking the golden point with 20/13 produces a blot, a possible hit. This is the downside. The upside: It is, given the fact, that the possibility is high, that he is not hitted, instantly not only a liability, but turns into an asset for controlling the outfield, pointing on the stranded white men on the advanced anchor.
Let us now look at the other ‘sick’ man, the corpus of the white structure.
Prime/position value. The white position is overstreched, brittle. Three men at the ace-point are appearently dead. There is no more place to go. But also the four men on the 2/3-piont are in lack of a goal anymore. The grave of the ace-point is no goal, to maintain a living position. Also the 6- point: this men can only rebuild the 4/5 point. Prime/position value is coming to a closure, given the made ace-point; went to the bucket.
Blitz/Attack value. White has an inner board with 4 points. Purity is compromised from 11 men in the ‘blitz zone’, only 2 men are alive. The value is still there, but static, not dynamic. The structure is only a threat for men coming in from the bar, then, after the rebirth on the 4/5 point, no threat anymore. The Blitz/Attack value, compared with Black, is on the edge, much lower.
Race value. Actived, leading with 17 pips. But it is not a pure, ‘defined’ race position. There is plenty of contact to leave behind, to cash out on this asset. On hit from black can make this stock in the portfolio valueless.
Contact/Turnaround value. Still activated. But the structure of White is running out of oil (‘timing’), every men is not only under ‘Zugzwang’, but overburdened with tasks. Look at the men on the 9-point. Men in the ‘blitz zone’, but also a bridge for the other men on the 4/13 points, finally safeties also in the backfield. The value is diminishing, very soon.
The ‘connectivitiy zone’, for the men on the 4-point, if the two outer points are broken, is going up to 14 points, connecting to the main corpus of the army.
So at the end, there are two game plans, to bottles of medicines to drink. Look to the move, which is addressing the concept ‘safety’, breaking the 5-point with 5/1 5/2. No blot to shoot. The safeties in the outfield will stay put, playing man coverage for the enemies point. From a static point of view, perfect play. Black is not paying now, the Race value stays open.
But given the other values of the ‘PRAT-equation’, which will produce the VALUE IN SUM of your position, it is now the question for the price, which has to be paid, to keep a single option open.
Regarding the assets and liabiltities, you can see the side effects of each medicines, temporising with the safe play, playing bold, breaking the golden point. It is now up to you, which medicine you are willing to drink.
Backgammon, as life, from a philosophical POV, is not being in presence. It is torn apart in the threefold structure of time, the given, the actual, the virtual. Stretched in a fourfold, two dual axes, Readyness-at-hand vs. Present-at-hand, Concealing and Revealing.
A pro wrotes: “20/13 keeps White under the most pressure and some of his hits aren't very safe.” What is revealed, for the ‘ordinary joe’, beside the right answer? If you follow the ‘Dreyfus-model’, coming ‘from Novize to Expert’, this answer shows the perfect ‘gut-feeling’ of a true expert, nailing it down in one sentence. But it reveals nothing of the hard way, the expert went, to come in a shot to this educated guess.
As you see, the ‘new fourfould’ of ‘PRAT’ keeps the work up, to reveal something of this work. “Pure strategy” is a task with an attidude. After that, you can define ‘pressure’ and ‘aren’t very safe’ a little better.
