Make live streaming great again!

We will once again provide extensive state-of-the-art streaming from Texas -- not because we have to, not because we make any money from it, simply because we want to do so. Simply because we think we owe it to our board sponsor, Geoffrey Parker Games -- though we also streamed heavily before that relationship developed. We always have, we always will -- at substantial cost. Tara has probably streamed as many matches as anyone in the world -- San Antonio, Monte Carlo, Chicago, Las Vegas, and consulting on even more, she takes particular pride in doing it well. I have watched her, up close and personally, invest huge numbers of hours in testing, in learning, and in perfecting the necessary skills. We will be using the best equipment currently available. There are others who expend similar efforts, time, and investments.
Streaming will never meet every individual's perception of perfection -- that is impossible. Errors might be made. But we do our best, at a substantial cost. Just like Patti also does, and Rory also does, and Steen also does, and the UKBGF also does, and the JBL also does, and the USBGF also does, and others also do.
But every time some of you complain, whine, and bitch you discourage yet another director or another federation from putting in the time, effort, and money to provide a valuable free service to the backgammon community. What's the use when they hear nothing but negativity and they get no respect or appreciation? Similar for the streaming volunteers, why should they subject themselves to the negativity and lack of appreciation? Those of you that have no vested interest, no understanding or appreciation of actual streaming, many of those who have never attended a tournament or invested a dime in the game, don't mind expressing your negative opinions and ruining it for others.
If we want to grow the game, if we want sponsors, and if we want more added money, we must perfect streaming and provide potential sponsors and others the necessary avenues for the promotion of their products and services. Otherwise, it is futile.
Recognize that streaming is not simple. Yes, single streams are comparably simple -- though there are many subtleties to doing it right. Recognize that multiple streams introduce orders of magnitude of complexity -- some tournaments use dual streams, one tournament plans triple streams this year. The equipment is not inexpensive. It is difficult to transport the substantial equipment to different cities. It is best accomplished by a dedicated, full-time, knowledgeable staff member.
So, please help by constructively expressing your opinions and suggestions. Be part of the solution, not just another part of the problem.
Thank you. And enjoy the streaming !!
