Just some quick responses to related replies to my earlier posts..
Tarheelfan - your speed and accuracy is impressive! I think you must be one of the best manual transcribers in the world (no sarcasm intended). However, I am guessing that there must be plenty of people who are slower / less accurate / less dynamic than you?
Regarding “However, I would want the program to flag any cases where the move did not match the dice.” - great minds think alike! It seems that this is already being addressed by the associated ‘helper’ software Masahiro is developing (mentioned in my previous post today).
Bob - ‘Also ability to play via computer interface already exists. *NM*’
I think this might be a moot point in this particular discussion. I have not seen many people playing official matches with each other via a computer interface at the live, sit-down tournaments I have attended. Has anybody??
Having said that, I personally don’t mind the idea of playing a live match on a tablet or AIO PC. But I think you'll find that there is a perhaps 'obstinate' resistance to digital interfaces being allowed for official live matches. Many people prefer traditional boards, despite the extra work caused by manual transcription later (if they bother with it at all).
Also, I’m sure you already realise that the proportion of video recorded matches that have not yet been transcribed around Youtube, Twitch etc tend not to have been played on a computer interface (i.e. XG). Manually transcribing a match which was played on digital XG is, shall we say, not the most efficient use of one’s time ;)
Jakob - your innovation and inititive with BEZMA is to be commended. However, Masahiro’s software is likely to be more cost-effective than buying your special boards, and yet will still perform a similar function with regard to the transcribing of a match.
Terje - “You can also get 'live transcription' of your online matches from gnu backgammon on Backgammon Studio”.
I think this is another moot point in this particular thread. Don’t get me wrong - this is a nice feature for online matches played via the computer interface on your excellent site. But it is not really relevant as we are discussing the potential for automating transcription of typical live matches, referencing a pre-recorded video file here.
