Yes that is closer to how I would do it. I suggested something similar to the guy who makes the BG Buddy software:

Whenever you click to get the dice you'd take a picture of the board and the next turn another picture is taken and you can compare the two images to get what was played.

I'm sure some would go berserk over the loss of the manual dice as you can surely control the outcome of the dice with your mind? :-) And who will ever trust any random generator that is used no matter how good it is? :-)

I do love the shaking of the dice in order to pull that awesome roll I need in order to crush my opponent and this kind of solution doesn't solve the problem with a huge backlog of match videos. Still, it is an interesting possibility!
