Presumably if it were JUST BG and common everyday tasks, you could have gotten by with a lot cheaper video card, right? (I'm thinking ~$80 or less. If the mobo has built in video -- don't know if your IP35 pro does -- then $0.)

Yes. These days you will almost certainly get by with onboard video. $80 will get you a decent gaming card (not great, but decent).

On the other hand if you try to play games with onboard video you will quickly be inspired to purchase a decent video card.
