It takes some time even when a tournament is using standardized brackets that exist within bgbrackets.com; however, it is considerably easier than tournaments that have non-standard brackets which are developed on-site on-the-fly. Then the brackets have to be 'constructed' in a fashion to be displayed on-line. Tara has successfully used bracketsninja.com to do this at Monte Carlo and San Antonio. There are some other sites, too.

Standardized brackets all assume everyone starts at the same place. Tournaments that have re-buys are particularly difficult to report brackets on-line. One never knows how many players will be there and how many re-buys will occur. So, there is no way to know the number of winners and losers you have going into the next round with until the re-buys are closed. Only then can you start designing the brackets. And designing the brackets are no small task.

Among the American tournaments with re-buys, New York and Las Vegas mitigate the chaos somewhat by having fresh start Last Chance flights -- so only the Consolation is progressive. I am a masochist and also design/use a progressive Last Chance in San Antonio.

Not sure of all of the European tournaments but in all the tournaments Arda directs -- Monte Carlo, Cyprus, and more -- he also designs the brackets on-site. He is a master at it. And, of course, many of these tournaments are double elimination which introduces even more complexity.

I know many have other opinions but I feel on-line brackets, streaming, social media updates, and the like are all great for the game and ultimately are good for individual tournaments. The more people hear of a tournament and see what is going on, then the more likely they are to consider attending it at some time. Reporting functions are great marketing and promotion tools.

So, some contend that there is no benefit to a tournament and that such reporting efforts only serve non-attendees while costing the tournament money and personnel resources perhaps reducing services to and focus on attending players. I disagree. I think the objectives can be addressed in a balanced fashion. I think all are important.
