24/18* and 16/11, for a lot of reasons but one big one is that if our one blot gets kicked around a bit before we can escape him, at least all our other checkers are in good, secure locations. If instead we do escape easily, our chances of getting home quietly are as good as they ever are in this type of ending. The way we could lose this game quickly is to get more than one man picked up and bouncing, and I think this play is the one that minimizes that risk.
