GammonPoints

"In the olden days of the KG rating list was DC area dominated since the Beltway club was a dominant contributor to that as well"
That was based on an Elo system. Just playing a lot would not raise one in the ratings. The main reason the DC area dominated was because there were a lot of good players.
Contrast this to the system Gammonpoints uses. Points are accumulated so just playing in a bunch of tournaments is being measured about as much as playing well. The strength of field calculation based on gammon points won means that a weekly collection of players will start gaining points faster and faster.
Let's say a group of 16 players have a weekly tournament. They are getting about 3 gammon points per tournament. Not even taking into account that some will have surpassed 10 making the amount of GP per tournament greater after 3 years they will total 468 GP which is close to 30 per person. They then would be getting close to 9 GP per tournament. Play in such a weekly tournament compared to a group that had not been entering results and you stand to win 3 times as many points due to the "strength" of field being so much higher.
