Using the back arrow works just fine for me. Did it just now with 3 different searches to make sure.

The way I usually do it anyway avoids this potential problem. Hover over the link, hit CTRL + left click, and the link opens in a new tab leaving the original search page untouched. It's the same as hovering over the link, right clicking and choosing Open link in new tab.
